Bells will be ringing this sad sad news
Oh what a Christmas to have the blues
My baby's gone I have no friends
To wish me greetings once again
Choirs will be singing Silent Night
Christmas carols by candlelight
Please come home for Christmas
Please come home for Christmas
If not for Christmas by New Years night
Friends and relations send salutations
Sure as the stars shine above
But this is Christmas yes Christmas my dear
The time of year to be with the ones you love
So won't you tell me you'll never more roam
Christmas and New Years will find you home
There'll be no more sorrow no grief and pain
And I'll be happy, happy once again
Oh there'll be no more sorrow, no grief and pain
And I'll be happy, Christmas once again

Bears of Alaska - River
03:30
|
|||
It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby cry
He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I made my baby say goodbye
It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

Take a trip with me in 1913,
To Calumet, Michigan, in the copper country.
I will take you to a place called Italian Hall,
Where the miners are having their big Christmas ball.
I will take you in a door and up a high stairs,
Singing and dancing is heard everywhere,
I will let you shake hands with the people you see,
And watch the kids dance around the big Christmas tree.
You ask about work and you ask about pay,
They'll tell you they make less than a dollar a day,
Working the copper claims, risking their lives,
So it's fun to spend Christmas with children and wives.
There's talking and laughing and songs in the air,
And the spirit of Christmas is there everywhere,
Before you know it you're friends with us all,
And you're dancing around and around in the hall.
Well a little girl sits down by the Christmas tree lights,
To play the piano so you gotta keep quiet,
To hear all this fun you would not realize,
That the copper boss' thug men are milling outside.
The copper boss' thugs stuck their heads in the door,
One of them yelled and he screamed, "there's a fire, "
A lady she hollered, "there's no such a thing.
Keep on with your party, there's no such thing."
A few people rushed and it was only a few,
"It's just the thugs and the scabs fooling you, "
A man grabbed his daughter and carried her down,
But the thugs held the door and he could not get out.
And then others followed, a hundred or more,
But most everybody remained on the floor,
The gun thugs they laughed at their murderous joke,
While the children were smothered on the stairs by the door.
Such a terrible sight I never did see,
We carried our children back up to their tree,
The scabs outside still laughed at their spree,
And the children that died there were seventy-three.
The piano played a slow funeral tune,
And the town was lit up by a cold Christmas moon,
The parents they cried and the miners they moaned,
"See what your greed for money has done."

I got five hundred dollars from my boss
It was my Christmas bonus that year
So I folded the notes and I told all my jokes
and I headed straight out of there
I walked myself up to the bar
Where I ordered my usual and more
I'd set out to be in the clouds
but the clouds turned to streams and the streams turned to seas
and I don't know what happened last night
I woke up in such a fright
Because this place ain't my place and she wasn't you
Oh Lord, she wasn't you
When the taxi pulled up to my door
I noticed that I had no keys anymore
And just when the panic set in
I fought like a man, took it all on the chin
Well I don't know what happened last night
I woke up in such a fright
Cuz this place ain't my place and she wasn't you
Oh Lord, she wasn't you
In the morning the locksmith he came
With a drill and a bit and a card and a name
I paid him and then I just sat
and counted the twelve bucks I had left in my hat
well I don't know what happened last night
I woke up in such a fright
Cuz this place ain't my place and she wasn't you
Oh Lord, she wasn't you
Well I don't know what happened last night
I woke up in such a fright
Cuz this place ain't my place and she wasn't you
Oh Lord, she wasn't you
Cuz this place ain't my place and she wasn't you
Oh Lord, she wasn't you
Oh Lord, she wasn't you
Oh Lord, she wasn't you
Oh Lord, she wasn't you

I had nothing to say on Christmas day
When you threw all your clothes in the snow
When you burnt your hair, and you knocked over chairs
I just tried to stay out of your way
But when you fell asleep
With blood on your teeth, I just got in my car and drove away
Listen to me, butterfly
There's only so much wine
That you can drink one life
But it will never be enough
To save you from the bottom of your glass
Where the state highway starts, I stop my car
I get out, to stare up at the stars
And as meteors die
And shout across the sky
I just stop about your setting shining eyes
And I went back for my clothes, when the sun finally rose
Oh,You were still passed out on the floor
Listen to me, butterfly
There's only so much wine
That you can drink one life
But it will never be enough
To save you from the bottom of your glass

I wish you love
And happiness
I guess I wish
You all the best
I wish you don't
Do like I do
And ever fall in love with
Someone like you
Cause if you fell
Just like I did
You'd probably walk around the block like a little kid
But kids don't know
They can only guess
How hard it is
To wish you happiness
I guess that love
Is like a Christmas card
You decorate a tree
You throw it in the yard
It decays and dies
And the snowmen melt
Well I once knew love
I knew how love felt
Yeah I knew love
Love knew me
And when I walked
Love walked with me
And I got no hate
And I got no pride
Well, I got
So much love that I cannot hide
Yeah, I got
So much love that I cannot hide
Say you drive a Chevy
Say you drive a Ford
You say you drive around the town till you just get bored
And then you change your mind
For something else to do
And your heart gets bored with your mind and it changes you
Well it's a doggone shame
And it's an awful mess
I wish you love
I wish you happiness
I wish you love
I wish you happiness
I guess I wish
You all the best

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by the choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny little tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight
They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is going to spy
To see if reindeer's really know how to fly
And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you
And so I'm offering this simple phrase

Merry Christmas to you, Merry Christmas to you

I'll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the lovelight gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
I'll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents on the tree
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the lovelight gleams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

It was Christmas in prison and the food was real good
We has turkey and pistols carved out of wood
I dream of her always even when I don't dream
Her name's on my tongue and her blood's in my strings
Wait a while eternity
Old Mother Nature's got nothin' on me
Come to me, run to me, come to me now
I'm rollin' my sweetheart
I'm flowin' by God
She reminds me of a chess game with someone I admire
Or a picnic in the rain after a prairie fire
Her heart is as big as this whole goddamn jail
And she's sweeter than saccharine at a drug store sale
Wait a while eternity
Old Mother Nature's got nothin' on me
Come to me, run to me, come to me now
I'm rollin' my sweetheart
I'm flowin' by God
The search light in the big yard turns 'round with the gun
And spotlights the snowflakes like the dust in the sun
It's Christmas in prison there'll be music tonight
I'll probably get homesick, I love you, Good night
Wait a while eternity
Old Mother Nature's got nothin' on me
Come to me, run to me, come to me now
I'm rollin' my sweetheart
I'm flowin' by God

I’d never been one for tinsel time
Or candy canes or Santa at the mall
With the fat bratty kids sitting on his lap
Tell him what they want, but they won’t get that
I’d never been one for mistletoe
Or going home or remakes of a classic movie
With lesser-known actors who look like your dad if your dad lost some weight
Oh, oh
It’s twenty years later
The kids are knockin’ at the
Door
Even the dog is barkin’ at me,
“Get up! Get up!
Get up up up!”
What has my life become?
Shoveling the driveway
What has my life become?
Waiting for the pay day
Take one step and
Soon the world around you slips away
Till everyday’s a holiday
I’d never been one for laying low,
for picking trees, for hot cocoa that’s cold now
It’s basically chocolate milk
But without the milk
I always thought I’d be the man
Without a plan, run farther than the human eye can see
But now I’m lying to my children, telling someone is coming, giving something for nothing
Oh, oh,
I’m older and I’m fatter
But I know it doesn’t matter at
All
The cousins in the kitchen
Throwing dishes in the sink and
singing, “Get up!
Get up! Up! Up! Up!”
What has my life become?
Shoveling the driveway
What has my life become?
Waiting for the pay day
Take one step and
Soon the world around you slips away
Till everyday’s a holiday
Take one step and
Soon the world around you slips away
Till everyday’s a holiday
