I struggled writing liner notes because this song holds so much meaning for me; I didn’t know where to start. Considering current events, the beautiful imagery described in the song seems painfully unattainable for so many, and the final lines of the song are sobering, “Oh that we could always see such spirit through the year”. In our reality, I am reminded that while Christmas may cast a rosy glow on the world, it’s a fleeting moment that gives way once again to forcible separation of families, rampant opioid addiction, and mounting mass shootings, to name a few. What is Christmas like for those directly or indirectly impacted by these events? For those who can’t afford necessities or those who have no loved ones left? “Christmastime is Here” forced me to wonder what the world might look like if we truly embodied the best aspects of Christmas character in our daily lives.
